Loud music, young rock stars and revellers out to have a good time – just what the doctor ordered for Halloween!
La Dolce Vita, a pub-cum-lounge, behind New Empire Cinema, had an elaborate rock 'n' roll show planned out, with performances by city bands Gravy Theory, Supersonics, Cassini's Division and Safire. While both Gravy Theory and Safire are college bands, the Supersonics and Cassini’s Division are regulars on Kolkata’s western music scene.
Being the first band for the evening, Gravy Theory made a good start and kept the audience in head-banging mode, with
One man dead.
The crowd, dressed primarily in black, had a rock 'n' roll look for the night. Their fashion mantra seemed to be: ‘The crazier the look, the cooler you are’! T-shirts, jeans, harem pants and baggy bermuda shorts were in vogue, as was dark eye make-up.
We saw this pretty young lady enjoying the show with her friends. With a yellow top and a bright red scarf, she had it all going in her favour! Don’t miss the stylish belt, wrist band and that perfect hair cut.
Funky hair colours and bright converse shoes were a common trend. We even spotted bright blue and pink shoes, which did wonders to the otherwise plain outfits.
Short and crazy haircuts looked trendy while bright hair streaks also caught our attention.
Arijita Das of St. Xavier’s College, who earlier sported long hair, now has a short and trendy crop, with blue hair extensions, which makes her score a zillion on the style-o-meter.
Soft-coloured stoles were the only signs of the fast-increasing chill in the air.
We caught up with a young couple who were rocking it out on Halloween. While a black tee and harem pants jazzed up with a stole, a stylish cap and cool hair accessories made up the girl’s look, her friend’s eyebrow piercing lent a hip look to his black shirt and bermuda shorts.
The musicians were not deficient in style either. Shomdev Thakur, a student of Jadavpur University, and one of the guitarists of the Gravy Theory, stood out with his long tresses.
In keeping with the mood of Halloween, which coincided with their bass player Nitin’s birthday, the Supersonics had their costumes, wigs and scary make-up perfectly in place.
The bats, spiders and mutated hands grasping eye balls, which were put up all over the pub, added to the Halloween ambience, although the jack-o’-lanterns were conspicuous by their absence.
The Halloween revellers had a heck of a time, as they cheered and sang along with the bands. As a young student from South City College put it, ‘A rock 'n' roll horror show is the best possible way to celebrate Halloween!’
