Elliot Park

Elliot Park
RSS 2.0 ATOM 0.3

Location: On Chowringhee, opposite Tata Centre, near the Park Street crossing.
Hit the Spot: One could board a train and get off at Maidan Metro Railway Station. Buses and taxis are also available from various parts of the city.
Nearest Railway Station: Howrah
Nearest International Airport: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.

Elliot Park is situated in the centre of the city. It is spread over 90,000 sq. feet and has a jogger's track stretching over 1.5kms. It is the latest addition to the list of new parks being developed in Kolkata, the others being Millenium Park and Citizen's Park. It was built and is maintained by Tata Steel.

Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, during his first spell as Chief Minister of West Bengal, inaugurated the park on 22nd November, 2004. The park is well looked after and is much loved by visitors.

Till a few years back, this plot of land near the Maidan Metro Railway station used to be a dump for offal. Now the dumpsite has been transformed into a beautiful park marked by a fountain and covered with trees and flowers. It has provision for sitting and boasts of food stalls which provide snacks for people thronging the parks.

From ‘Waste to Wealth’, that’s how Elliot Park can be described now. The park has ceased to let the Maidan stretch along Chowringhee remain an eyesore!
