Millennium Park was set up on 1st January, 2000, and is the first of its kind amusement park for people of all ages. This park is the brainchild of Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority. The land on which Millennium Park stands in Kolkata belongs to the Kolkata Port Trust.
The main aim behind setting up Millennium Park at Kolkata was to promote tourism and to grace the river bank with some glorifying beauty. The river as a backdrop to the park adds a unique charm to it. From here, one can stroll to the river bank and enjoy a boat ride (make sure you know swimming). The park covered with greenery all around is thronged by hundreds of visitors throughout the day. There are benches to sit and relax amidst the magnanimous and elegant beauty of the Millennium Park.
For children specially, there is a small exclusive park just beside the main park where they can take a ride on merry-go-rounds, slides, swings, etc. It also houses a food joint which serves mouth-watering snacks and delicacies. And for those wanting to rest under the shade, there are hut shaped shelters as well!
The best time to visit Millennium Park would be the evening when the park looks wonderful amidst the colourful lights under the dark sky. The river alongside provides a soothing backdrop to the twilight which adds a serene touch to the moment. This is the time when you can sit in the park and enjoy its breathtaking, magnificent beauty.
