On a shade shopping spree

Sameera Reddy flaunts her glares.
Most of us won’t admit it but the main reason we wear sunglasses is because we want to look cool! While the style statement is something we should keep in mind, let’s not forget to pack in some eye protection with your cool glares. Here are some tips when going shade shopping…

If you saw Sameera Reddy cheer the Knight Riders at the cricket match at Eden Gardens, then you couldn’t have missed her hot shades or her companions, glare girls Gauri Khan and Juhi Chawla. Sunglasses are a relief from the blistering summer sun and they are far more than just luxury (though they are that too, in spades).

Always go for a quality pair. It will protect the eyes — particularly the exposed cornea — from the harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun.

There are sunglasses in every category — leisure sport, casual lifestyle or high street. If you’re confused with so much to choose from, go for a brand that suits your personality. Vogue is for those who like to play with fashion or club-hoppers. D&G and Versace suit the flamboyant party people while Prada goes best with the corporate look. Ray Ban is comfort wear and Bvlgari is luxury, and pocket power.

Check the part of the frame that falls behind the ears. If it doesn’t fall in the right place, you will end up looking through the wrong part of the lens. Before making your purchase, check if you are allergic to metal or shell casings.

Opting for comfort is a wise choice, even if it means sacrificing a design or brand your heart is set on and even if it means paying more.

Check the length of the rims (where it ends behind your ears), the spring of the spectacle rim and the weight of the glasses. Your shades should be strong but not heavy on your face.
