'Thikana Rajpath': Preview

A number of Bengali films have set a date with the pujas this year. One among these puja releases is Sandstone Communications’ Thikana Rajpath.

The film revolves around the lives of four people: Padma, Madhab, Rathin and Manisha. Rathin (Rajatava Dutta) and Manisha (Indrani Halder) have been married for a long time but remain childless. This leads to much unpleasantness. Finally, the couple decide to take the surrogate route. Their domestic help Padma (Debosree Roy), a mother of three married to Madhab rickshawala (Debesh Roy Choudhury) is asked to become the surrogate mother in return for one lakh rupees. Padma accepts the offer.

According to director Konoj Das, Thikana Rajpath is neither a commercial nor a parallel film. “It is a good movie and I don’t want to categorise it,” he says. Touching on the concept of motherhood in the film, Das says, “When a mother sells her child, whatever the price, her pain is unbearable. We want to portray this anguish”.

The story has similarities with the Salman Khan-Preity Zinta-Rani Mukherjee starrer Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, but the director insists that the movie is entirely different.

Debosree Roy seemed concerned about the film’s success when she said, “This is a new concept and I’m not sure that the public will accept it.”
