Akshay to play R.K. Laxman's Common Man

Akshay Kumar's takes his turn as the Common Man in Priyadarshan's next.
It’s hard to imagine khiladi Kumar donning glasses, a long checked shirt and a dhoti and sporting funny hair and a bushy moustache. But Akshay Kumar could be doing just that in Priyadarshan’s next.

Akshay’s character in Priyadarshan’s upcoming movie Khatta Meetha is inspired by a comic character, none other than R.K. Laxman’s iconic Common Man.

The makers of the film felt that Akshay, who is known for his comedy as much as for his action films, is ideal to play Laxman’s witty Common Man.

Khatta Meetha is a satire based on the road-mafia active in Bihar and parts of Uttar Pradesh. Based on a true incident, this film unveils the chagrin of the common man through Akshay's character,” sources close to the actor revealed.

The film is being produced under Akshay’s own banner, Hari Om Productions.

2009 proved rather a damp squib for the actor, despite having five releases during the year. Chandni Chowk to China and Blue disappointed critics and audiences alike, while 8x10 Tasveer sank without a trace. Only Kambakkht Ishq provided some cheer for the actor in the box office despite being thoroughly trashed by critics.

But the actor has a slew of releases lined up this year, which could restore his box office fortunes. Apart from Khatta Meetha, these include Sajid Nadiadwala’s Housefull, Nikhil Advani’s Patiala House and Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan.
