Celebrity Poila Boisakh

Posted On :16/04/2009
By Shayan Acharya and Sritama Dutta
Wondering how the Challenge-duo Dev and Subhashree are planning to celebrate this Poila Boisakh? Or if Bappi da will be doing any mujik on the occasion of the Bengali New Year? How’s Supriya Devi going to spend the day tomorrow?
Bappi Lahiri (Bollywood musician):
I was born in Bengal; I sang in Bengal; Bengal is my mother. So, Poila Boisakh is a very special day for me. Tomorrow I’ll start my day by visiting the Siddhi Vinayak Temple, and then spend time with friends and family.

Like every year, this year, too, I’ve invited Kajol and Rani Mukherjee’s family for dinner. I’ll not work tomorrow, and we hope to have a gala time with lip-smacking Bengali cuisines.

Though Poila Boisakh is not celebrated with much pomp and show in Mumbai, I try to celebrate it as a true Bengali.

Subhashree (Actress):
This Poila Boisakh, I'll be away from my my near and dear ones as I'll be busy promoting Challenge in Tarakeswar.

Supriya Devi (Veteran actress): After the demise of Uttam Kumar, I don’t really celebrate Poila Boisakh. There was a time when we would celebrate this day with our friends, but now it’s all history.

I’m not keeping well this year, and my daughter and grandchildren are abroad, so I’ll just arrange a small pujo at home. That’s how I’ll spend my Poila Boisakh.

Bratya Basu (Theatre personality):
I’ll spend the day at home, with my family. I’m also planning to read some new storybooks tomorrow.

Dev (Actor):
I’ll be busy with my promotions of Challenge tomorrow. We’ll leave at 9 in the morning and come back at around 10 at night. So, I’ll be spending the New Year with my audience and fans. As for family, I’ll just have to wish them over the phone.

Aniruddha Roychowdhury (Filmmaker):
I’m planning to spend the day with family. I have plans to watch some movies, and read novels. There aren’t any special plans for Poila Boisakh, but some friends may come down to my place, and we might just have a gala adda.

But yes, I’ll make sure that I have phulko luchi, aloor tarkari and mihidana for breakfast. That’s how I’ll celebrate the first day of the Bengali calendar.

Swastika (Actress):
I’ll go to South City Mall in the morning to buy something for my daughter. Then I’ll be going to Param’s (Parambroto) place for lunch with my family. I’m not going to restrict myself to any sort of diet tomorrow; rather, I’ll munch on all kinds of junk stuff.
