Houseful deals with the life of a filmmaker, showing how reel life clashes with the real. Film director Nikhil (Prosenjit Chatterjee) finds it hard to come up with a love story that’ll be a runaway success, but fails every time. The critics label him another of those flop directors.
Until, that is, movie booker Samir (Nitya Ganguly) gives him the formula for a successful film. He asks Nikhil to make a frame by frame copy of any South Indian movie. Armed with the hit formula of plagiarism, Nikhil sets out in search of box office success.
Citing the absence of original scripts, debut producer Debashis Saha says, “
Houseful has a sarcastic take on film plagiarism that’s so common these days.” Saha says that the lack of originality is the reason spectators end up watching the same movies in different languages.
Director and scriptwriter Bappaditya Bandyopadhyay said, “The movie is very different from what we get to see these days. And when you have Prosenjit in the cast, more than half your work is done.”
(Read: 'Prosenjit’s new avatar is Houseful’s USP')Houseful is the second film where Prosenjit portrays a filmmaker after Rituparno Ghosh’s Khela.
