‘I may be seen with Jeet again’

Posted On :11/12/2008
Koel Mullick.
Success always adds zing to your career: Koel.
Koel Mullick has had two very important releases. A section of Tollywood considers Haranath Chakrobarty’s Mon Mane Na and Sujit Guha’s Chirasathi, starring the actress, to be the films that will determine the pace of her future. Few months back, actor Swastika Mukherjee walked up to the press with ills that sharply cut into Koel’s personal and professional territories, and consequently forked the Tolly fraternity into two; some criticised the actor-daughter of veteran Ranjit Mullick while some chose to back her up. The issue also put a question mark on the possibility of her being paired with actor Jeet, with whom Koel has a few hits in her kitty. When contacted by ILK, Koel said commenting on Swastika’s allegations would be below her dignity.

But now she sounds more mature and seems to have learnt from that unsavoury experience. In an interview with ILK, she said that she still enjoyed the support of a large section of Tollywood and, surprisingly enough, tried to quell speculation that she won’t be seen with Jeet again.

How important do you think the two releases are for your career? Will they have a determining effect?

I have no idea why you are asking all this. I have had many big-budget releases in the past, and these two are not any different.

I am asking this in connection to Swastika’s allegations few months back and Tolly’s reaction to them.

You are the first one to have asked me such questions. Even I didn’t know such a context may exist!

How was the experience of being paired with two greenhorns like Dev and Hiran?

It was nice. Both are talented and energetic. I have tried my bit to cooperate with them. The experience brought back the memory of Nater Guru, the film which saw me facing the camera for the first time. Jeet was my co-actor, and he helped me a lot.

But it also had Ranjit Mullick, your father, in an important part. His presence would surely have helped you gain confidence!

Of course. He has been the best guide for me!

Coming back to Jeet, is there any chance of seeing you again with him?

Not in the near future. My hands are full now. But if directors want us to see together, I’ll give it a thought.

What are your other forthcoming films?

I have just finished working on a Koushik Gangully film named Jackpot. Sandip Ray has cast me in his upcoming venture, but the shooting is yet to start. There is another by Sujit Guha. Corporate giant Mahindra & Mahindra will be debuting as producers in a Bengali movie. You’ll see me there as well.
