Mallika Sarabhai: Films can change thinking.
The power of films to influence human minds has now led the renowned classical dancer Mallika Sarabhai into film-making.

‘I think films are a great way to change thinking’, she told PTI when asked about the reason for changing tracks to films.

She will soon be co-directing a film based on a novel on the Syrian Christian community in Kerala. ‘Nothing else has been finalised yet’, she says, while adding that the film is about the many roles played by women in an orthodox Syrian Christian family set-up.

Yadavan Chandran, film director T.V. Chandran’s son and the head of Darpana Communications will co-direct the movie.

She was in the capital recently for a dance theatre performance.

Mallika has won many accolades during her long career, the French Palme d’Or (the highest civilian award by the Government of France) being one of them.

On how she is adjusting to different roles in life, from being an artist, a social activist, a teacher, and now a director, she says, ‘I don’t see my life as fragments. Everything I do is about communicating ideas, about bringing in positive change, justice and humanity into life around me. And I love it because it is so varied’.
