Rupert Murdoch has said that there have been early talks with James Cameron about making a sequel to
Avatar, reports the
Daily Telegraph.
Cameron wants the next instalment of his
Avatar franchise to explore Pandora's oceans.
The director told
MTV News that his fictional planet's aquatic life was equally rich and "diverse and crazy and imaginative" as its famously colourful land-based equivalent,
Digitalspy reports.
Many of the scenes would require actual underwater filming, he said.
The prospect of a sequel was something Cameron planned from the start, going so far as to include certain scenes in the film for future story follow-ups. The director elsewhere said he wanted to make the sequel "cheaper and faster" and that the story would be a continuation of the characters introduced in
Avatar.
