Remember Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Musafir made way back in 1957? If not, we’d suggest you watch Mallick Bari by Chitrabani Film Institute. The first commercial film by any film institute in eastern India, Mallick Bari is inspired by Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s debut film Musafir.

The movie deals with three stories with a common thread - the Mallick Bari, house of the Mallicks, where Supriya Devi is the landlady. The first story starts with the entrance of the first tenant Bratyo (Biswanath Basu), who comes into contact with beneficial supernatural elements in the house. But Bratyo commits suicide after a few days. The second tenant Ritwik comes in search of his sister Mani (Pallavi Chatterjee) who has eloped with gangster Rana (Sabyasachi Chakraborty). Finally, enters the third tenant Rudra (Kanchan Mallick). He falls in love with a tele-caller named Purnima (Paoli Dam) who sells credit cards. Though both of them want to meet, they are not confident about their looks, which is why they send their best friends, Anindya (Rishi Kaushik) and Madhumita (Swarnakamal Dutta), as proxies. After subsequent meets, Anindya and Madhumita fall in love. It’s this three-fold story that Mallick Bari, which is set for a 3 July release, will tell its viewers.
