How to download rupee symbol

Posted On :19/07/2010
The rupee symbol
The rupee symbol blends the Roman 'R' and the Devanagri 'Ra'.
The Indian government does not plan to make the new rupee symbol commercially available before at least a year, but you can download and start using the new symbol on the word processor right away.

Thanks to Mangalore's Foradian Technologies Pvt Ltd, the symbol has a new font – the Rupee_Foradian. Download the font to use the rupee symbol on your computer even though it is yet to get its keyboard command.

The font is available for free download at the Foradian blog (http://blog.foradian.com). There is also a YouTube video that shows how to use it.

Designed by IIT postgraduate D Udaya Kumar, the rupee symbol is a blend of the Roman "R" and the Devanagri "Ra", and will now set the Indian rupee apart from currencies of Pakistan, Nepal, Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Once incorporated in the Unicode Standard, it will be possible to display and print the symbol in electronic as well as print media.
