Kolkata, 2 July: BJP Mahila Morcha President Smriti Irani and West Bengal party chief Rahul Sinha were arrested yesterday along with 170 workers for blocking roads at Dharmatala while protesting against fuel price hike.
Altogether 172 BJP workers, including Irani and Sinha, were arrested for blocking the busy road, police sources said.
The party had given a call for a one-hour road blockade at Dharmatala and Shyambazar to protest against the petro price increase.
The state BJP president later alleged that police lathicharged party workers at Shyambazar in which two were injured.
He said that BJP workers would gherao the Jorasanko police station today in protest against the incident.
