Sunderbans (WB), 11 Mar: A radio collar fitted to a tigress early this month has come off and was retrieved by forest personnel from inside the jungles here today.
"For the last four days, we were getting a stationary signal from the radio collar. So, we entered the forest during the day and retrieved it from Pirkhali-6," field director, Sunderbans Tiger Reserve (STR), Subrata Mukherjee, told PTI.
Asked about the possible reason of the radio collar slipping off, he said it might have occurred as the wild cats become very aggressive during mating season.
The official said the collar coming off was not a matter of concern and it had happened as many as 17 times in the past.
STR has planned to radio collar 6 to 10 big cats to have accurate data about their behaviour, Mukherjee, who personally went to retrieve the collar, said.
