Kolkata, 09 Mar: West Bengal is expected to get investment of over Rs 7000 crore during the current year in engineering, automobiles, chemicals besides iron and steel which would create employment opportunities, said today.
The total investment in the projects implemented in the state during 2009 was Rs 6,431 crore, he said addressing the assembly on the opening day of the budget session.
The proposed Jagdishpur-Haldia pipeline of GAIL was expected to bring natural gas to the state by 2012, he said adding that the state has already received approval from the Centre for setting up a petroleum chemicals and petro chemicals investment region (PCPIR) near Haldia.
Referring to rural electrification, the Governor said under the 11th plan period, the task of providing access to electricity to 53 lakh rural households across 33000 mouzas has been tied up with Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojna with fund sharing between the state and the Centre.
A 250 MW unit Santaldih thermal power station was expected to add to the present capacity in the current financial year, he said, adding that Durgapur Projects Ltd also had a plan for installation of a 250 MW unit.
