Music launch of 'Raavan'
The music of Bollywood's much-awaited movie, Raavan, was released at a glittering event in Mumbai on Saturday. Lead pair, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, released the soundtrack of the film, directed by Mani Ratnam. The cast and crew of the film, including music director AR Rahman and lyricist Gulzar performed at the event.

Kashmir’s Kani shawl gets GI status
Kashmir's world famous Kani shawl, produced on a handloom from Pashmina fiber, has got the Geographical Indication or GI status. The GI status would legally prohibit people from selling duplicate Kani shawls made at other places, under the same name. The GI tag will also help the Kani shawl to regain its rightful place in domestic and global markets.

BCCI suspends Lalit Modi
Within minutes after the Chennai Super Kings pulled off a surprise win over the Mumbai Indians in IPL final on Sunday, the Board of Control for Cricket India, in a dramatic midnight coup, suspended its vice-president and IPL chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi for alleged financial impropriety. As planned, the Board waited for the IPL final to be over and within minutes of the prize distribution ceremony at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, it announced Modi's suspension and a show cause notice to him.

‘China’s dam across Brahmaputra will not affect its flow’
While addressing the media persons in New Delhi on Thursday Nirupama Rao, India ‘s Foreign Secretary informed that China is building a dam across River Brahmaputra at Zhangmu in Tibet. Rao added that the dam will not affect the downstream flow of the river in India. As for the concern over the dam project, she mentioned that there is a mechanism with China to discuss water issues of River Brahmaputra and River Satluj.

Trouble deepens for Praful
Even as he battles to steer clear of the IPL row, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel is facing more trouble as it has been revealed that Air India had cancelled a scheduled flight to use it as chartered plane to ferry Patel's daughter Poorna and some IPL players. As per the report published in a leading English daily, on 20 April, Air India cancelled its Delhi-Coimbatore flight and used the aircraft as a chartered flight to ferry Poorna Patel, IPL's hospitality manager, along with some IPL players from Chandigarh to Chennai. Although the IPL paid for the chartered flight, but clearly rules were bent by the Air India management to please the minister's daughter.

'Incriminating’ docs of IPL, KKR found after IT raid
Income Tax officials raided the offices of Kolkata Knight Riders and Cricket Association of Bengal last evening. The searches, which went on for eight long hours ending at 1 am, are claimed to have yielded some ‘incriminating’ documents related to IPL and KKR. A video report.

Sweltering heat to continue
The mercury seems to be rising every day as Kolkata reaches a temperature three degrees above normal. The maximum normal temperature in April is 36°C while on Monday the maximum temperature was 39.3°C. G. C.
