The recession may be on its last leg, but the city's idol makers are still reeling under its heat. Orders for idols of goddess Durga from abroad have drastically fallen for the second year in a row after 2008. According to Kumartuli Mritashilpa Sanskriti Samity, around 45 to 50 Durga idols were exported every year, but the orders have dipped to around 30-35 since the recession hit the economy.
