The cricket bat industry in Kashmir is facing a crisis because of the shortage of quality willow. The Kashmiri willow trees which is second to the English willow in quality take around 20 to 25 years to fully mature. The makers of cricket bats in the valley complain of the shortage of quality willow and the industry which employs about 10,000 workers is a worried lot, as this shortage is affecting their livelihood.
