CWG preparations way behind schedule
India aims to show a dazzling spectacle at the Commonwealth Games, but with just over 30 days to go, the world's third largest sporting event has exposed the country's infrastructure problems. Many CWG venues in New Delhi are far from complete and still others are falling apart under the force of the recent monsoon. A shooting range built for the Games and inaugurated two months ago was extensively damaged by the heavy rains earlier this month. At another complex, rain water leaked through the false ceiling and formed puddles on the floor.

Buddha slams Mamata
With the elections approaching, political temperatures are rising in West Bengal. Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Tuesday lashed out at Railway Minister and Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee for accusing the CPI(M) of being the cause for the couple of fatal railway mishaps in the state. While addressing a rally of the Communist Party of India-Marxist in Kolkata, Bhattacharjee slammed Mamata for playing a blame game.

BJP hails SC's verdict
Hailing the SC's directive, BJP prez Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday asked the centre to distribute the rotting food grains for free among the poor. He also asked the centre to modify the level of the current poverty line. The apex court on Tuesday clarified that it had ordered and not suggested the free distribution of food grains to the poor rather than let it decay in godowns.

India, Switzerland seal the deal
The protocol amending the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement was finally signed between India and Switzerland on Monday. The agreement will help the Indian govt obtain information on money stashed away in Swiss banks. The pact was signed in the capital, New Delhi, in the presence of Pranab Mukherjee and the Swiss foreign minister Micheline Calmy-Rey.
