Queen's baton final lap
With India geared up for the Commonwealth Games, the Queen's baton is being taken around New Delhi on the final lap of its long journey. The Queen's baton relay started from Vijay Chowk at 7am on Friday and first reached the India Gate. CWG Organising Committee Chairman, Suresh Kalmadi carried the baton down Rajpath.

A puja pandal in Kolkata is putting rain-water harvesting on the festive map this year. The Suruchi Sangha puja is well-known for grabbing eyeballs with its elaborate themes. Inspired by Karnataka, this year’s Suruchi Sangha pandal will be raising environmental concerns by focussing on the theme of rain-water harvesting.

SC doors still open: Jama Masjid cleric
Reacting to the verdict pronounced on the Ayodhya issue, Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari, chief Jama Masjid cleric, said though the verdict falls short of the expectations, they still have the option of appealing to Supreme Court.

Varanasi's eco-friendly Durga idols
In an effort to keep the Ganges clean, artists in Varanasi are using natural colours to create eco-friendly idols for Durga Puja. Since natural colours are dissolvable in water, immersion of these idols will not cause pollution. So far, the idols have been made with materials like plaster of Paris which are not dissolvable. This has caused a reduction in oxygen level in water and the death of aquatic animals.

Kashmir solution cannot be bought: Omar
Referring to the central govt's 8-point initiative for Kashmir, J&K CM Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said the solution to Kashmir cannot be bought. Abdullah did however praise the govt's attempt to bring reforms for the youth as well as for extending liberal grants. He also said people who are pressing for freedom are leading the people of the valley into slavery.

‘Going the Distance’: Trailer
Nanette Burstein's ‘Going the Distance’ is a romantic comedy starring Hollywood sweetheart Drew Barrymore and actor Justin Long. Based on bicoastal love, the film also stars Charlie Day and Christina Applegate among others. Written by Geoff LaTulippe, 'Going the Distance' grossed around $8 million (USA) in its opening weekend alone. The film is scheduled for release in India on 1 October. Watch trailer.

Music launch of 'Allah Ke Banday'
Music from the upcoming B'wood flick 'Allah Ke Banday' was unveiled recently in Mumbai. Directed by Faruk Kabir, the film revolves around the lives of two 12 year old slum dwelling boys who fall into the world of crime. Kailash Kher, Paresh and Naresh have rendered the music for the film. Starring Kabir, Sharman Joshi & Naseeruddin Shah, the film is slated for release on 22 October.

SC rejects Ayodhya verdict deferment plea
In a unanimous decision, the apex court has rejected the petition to defer the verdict on the Ayodhya case. The move has thus paved the way for Allahabad High Court to deliver its judgement on the 60 year old Babri Masjid dispute. The high court is expected to pronounce its decision on 30 September.

Mamata to ask PM for hills package
Mamata Banerjee announced recently she will ask PM Singh to declare a special package for the Darjeeling hills. Banerjee outlined that the package should include a tax holiday to attract industries there, assurance of 10,000 jobs for its unemployed youth as well as educational facilities. The TMC chief will also request him to visit the region.
