| Gurum R Narayanappa, a Bangalore-based weaver, has a dream that could soon come true. The weaver wants to present his handiwork to none other than the US President Barack Obama during his India visit in November this year. Narayanappa, whose forte is weaving silk, has been honoured by a state award in 2001, a national award in 2003 and the Rajyotsava award in 2008 for his workmanship. The idea of gifting a silk handkerchief and a silk saree to the first couple of the US dawned on him when he learnt of Obama's India visit two months ago from newspaper reports. | |

| Adding to the grandeur of Ganesh Chaturthi festivities in Mumbai is a massive idol of Lord Ganesha, parts of which are made of gold. While the idol's hands, feet and ears are solid gold, it has also been decorated with the precious metal. In total, 61 kilograms of the yellow metal have been used. The gold Ganesha, which costs an estimated Rs 130 million, was specially ordered by the Gaud Saraswat Brahmin Mandal, which hosts one of the city’s biggest pandals. | |
