Mamata defends pro-Maoist remarks |
| Mamata Banerjee has rubbished claims by the BJP and Left of her being a Maoist supporter. The allegations were made by the parties after rebels demanded that she act as mediator between the Maoists and the Center. Banerjee however, clarified that she would follow only the decision of the government.

Its Congress-BJP deal, claims Opposition |

The opposition on Wednesday accused BJP of having ulterior motives behind extending its support to the nuclear liability bill. They claim BJP did so in return for a clean chit to Modi in the Sohrabuddin case. Congress and BJP however, refuted the claims. BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu retaliated by calling the opposition parties as opportunistic.

| Tuesday’s cave-in on the road to Writers’ in front of the west gate of Raj Bhavan sent the civic bosses scurrying to the spot. The 13ft-deep crater was covered with a ‘regret flex’ by the KMC in less than 24 hours. Siliguri observes 12-hour shutdown |
| Bangla O Bangla Bhasha Bachao Committee, an organisation opposing separate statehood for Gorkhas, called a 12-hr shutdown in Siliguri on Tuesday. Shops and businesses remained closed while streets remained deserted as activists had blocked roads and rail services.
