Amarnath Yatra: A Himalayan journey |
| Each year, thousands of pilgrims undertake the Amarnath Yatra, a journey to a Himalayan cave shrine located at an altitude of 13500 ft. The cave in a narrow gorge at the farther end of Lidder valley houses an ice formation in the shape of a phallus, symbolizing its link to Lord Shiva. Pilgrims trek across treacherous mountains, glacier-fed lakes and frozen passes to reach the cave shrine. A number of people also voluntarily engage in community service, providing the pilgrims with refreshments along the way.

Tea workers to protest for better wages |

The workers will start a ‘work to rule’ movement from 15 July to 30 July, which means the workers will pluck leaves only according to their contract. Tax hike necessary to reduce fiscal deficit: FM |
| Defending the central government's decision to hike tax rates, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee in Kolkata on Friday opined that the move was aimed at reducing the widening fiscal deficit of the national economy. After the formal signing of an MoU pertaining to the beautification of the Kolkata riverfront in cooperation with the Indian Railways, Pranab noted that the distribution of money allocated for developmental activities by the Centre to the states was not being properly channelised or utilised. |

Amarnath pilgrims get mobile connectivity |
